Positive Reviews
positive:
Traditional, spacious rooms.
Rooms at the Smokehouse Ringlet are well-proportioned and decorated in a traditional English style with plenty of comfortable armchairs and dark oak-type furnishings. Beds are comfortable and the space, including bathroom is spotlessly clean thanks to daily housekeeping.
positive:
Superb location and gardens.
The area surrounding the property is magnificent, with a large open garden, kept in immaculate condition, providing plenty of views from the rooms. The beautifully manicured lawns and well-maintained pathways also allow for nice long walks around the property.
positive:
Afternoon tea highlight.
Smokehouse Ringlet is also well-known for their afternoon tea service. This service follows traditional English tea service and is usually served on the garden terrace which is spacious and very clean. Tea service is prompt and staff are polite and friendly.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Main road noise.
The hotel is quite close to the main road in the area and many of the rooms on this side of the building are prone to more noise, especially at night, from the road as well as passing pedestrian traffic. Those travellers more sensitive to noise should book on the other side of the hotel if possible.
negative:
Traditional décor not for everyone.
Smokehouse Hotel is designed to follow more traditional English design aesthetics and is in keeping with its 1939 heritage. This may not be to everyone's liking, particularly those looking for a more modern city-style hotel experience.
negative:
No usable internet connection.
While the hotel does try to provide a Wi-Fi service to the rooms, the signal strength is not really good enough for it to be usable. Some guests have had better luck in the lobby or restaurant areas however.
