Positive Reviews
positive:
Ideal location for the beach.
Three minutes is all the time it takes to walk to the beach from here. If you love spending time by the ocean yet hate having to deal with all the hassle that comes from driving there then this is definitely the place for you.
positive:
Staff are very personable and friendly.
The guys and gals working here have a very casual yet courteous manner. Whilst this may not be to every guest's liking, it makes the hotel as a whole feel very laid-back and helps to engender a really pleasant, welcoming vibe.
positive:
Pool is nice and big.
Compared to most 'standard' motels, The Sands' outdoor pool is actually pretty large. This can be a Godsend on busy days as it means you can enjoy a dip without being made to feel like a seasonal sardine.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Hotel feels a little tired in places.
Whilst some guests find the old-fashioned nature of this hotel charming, others see it as proof that an upgrade is long overdue. The truth is, whilst The Sands does retain a degree of 'old beach hotel' charm, a few strategic upgrades would definitely be highly beneficial.
negative:
Guest rooms are pretty small.
There's no getting around it, the guest rooms here are more than a little compact and bijou. If you're traveling as part of a group then do yourself a favor and be as economical with your packing as you can.
negative:
Old-style TVs.
Be prepared for cries of "What is THAT?" from your kids when you show them the old-style, limited channeling CRT television in your room: LCD HD flat-screen TVs with satellite channels have yet to infiltrate The Sands' accommodations..
