Established in 1551, Daikokuya has been a beloved retreat for generations of visitors, who come to relax and enjoy its hot springs, art collection, nature, and fine food. Immersed in such an environment, guests may unwind and recharge. Exquisite contemporary art and ceramics can be enjoyed in the guestrooms, corridors, garden, and each month in a special exhibition in the Salon. At Daikokuya, we believe that enjoying art within the calm, restorative atmosphere of a ryokan offers guests a unique experience, more relaxed perhaps than an urban gallery or museum. Daikokuya comprises three buildings: UME, MATSU and TAKE. Every room faces south, offering glorious sunlight and beautiful views over the river and across the wooded ravine. The rooms combine traditional Japanese and modern Western elements for maximum comfort. Furniture is handmade by a local artist. Guests may choose from tatami rooms with futons or rooms with raised futon beds. All rooms are en suite and have both air conditioning and under-floor heating. Meals are served in your room so that you can enjoy warm, nutritious and beautiful repasts in absolute comfort and calm. Daikokuya boasts 100% natural, free-flowing hot spring water. The temperature of the hot spring source ranges between 38º and 45º Celsius, meaning that guests unaccustomed to hot baths can also enjoy bathing here.
