Positive Reviews
positive:
Perfect location on the boardwalk
This was perhaps what guests most appreciated about the property. They describe the location as unbeatable, saying that it wasn't merely on the boardwalk, which would be great enough, but pretty much at the heart of Ocean City. As a result there was a great selection of restaurants and other amenities very nearby.
positive:
Great historical ambiance
Guests really appreciated the tranquil atmosphere that prevailed at the hotel, which they contrasted with the more hectic vibe at nearby high rise hotels. They credited the atmosphere to the fact that this was a quirky historical property with a lot of character that had been built up over many decades.
positive:
Exceptionally friendly and welcoming staff
It was very rare to read a review that did not praise the staff in some way. Typically, the praise was hearty, with guests saying that the staff, especially the front desk staff, were incredibly friendly and welcoming. They were also said to be prepared to go to enormous lengths to assist guests when the odd issue arose.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Rooms were a bit small
One downside of the historical nature of the property was that the rooms tended to be smaller than contemporary rooms, specially the bathrooms. Guests mentioned struggling with the limited space in their room, making them want to spend more time out and about, rather than cooped up in their room.
negative:
Very poor water pressure
An extraordinary number of guests reported being unhappy with their showers, saying that the water pressure was so low that it would have made more sense to call them “trickles”, rather than showers.
negative:
Could do with a refresh
While guests liked the historical ambiance in general, several said that certain aspects of their room needed a quick refresh to get it looking spiffy again.
