Positive Reviews
positive:
Does exactly what it says.
The accommodation at the Portland House proved to be ideal for many staying guests as it was clean, warm and comfortable, pretty basic but you got exactly what you paid for. Not having many facilities onsite wasn't a problem as you’re not that far from places to eat out.
positive:
Easy to get out and explore.
The location was great as the guest-house was situated very close to the city centre and was easily accessed by train which is only moments’ walk to and then a 3 mins train ride into the city centre. From there you will find many things to do from shopping to visiting museums.
positive:
A little of centre.
Some guests found the pricing to be great, its cheap quiet and not too far from the centre. If you like peaceful surroundings then here will be ideal for your stay as not being located directly in the city centre cuts out all the hustle and bustle.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Don’t expect five stars.
The rooms are spacious but very basic, if you are expecting 5 stars on hostel money maybe you should rethink where you stay as there is nothing more than a TV in the rooms. The place could certainly do with a total makeover and be brought into the 21st century.
negative:
Relocate to rooms.
If you are a tea and coffee type of person first thing in the morning, you may find it a bit of a struggle using the communal kitchen. Many guests were not comfortable with the idea of being sociable straight out of bed first thing in the morning communing in the kitchen.
negative:
Pay more attention to guests.
Although the owners at the Portland house made their guests feel welcomed, guests have commented that the owners could be more concerned with their business by paying more attention to detail and not cancel reservations without informing guests beforehand.
