Located on 10 acres of Gulf of Mexico beachfront property, Island Inn boasts resort-like accommodations with a private beach and outdoor pool. Guests receive a free daily breakfast, Wi-Fi, and onsite parking. All accommodations are air conditioned and some feature full kitchens and balconies with ocean views. Modern room amenities include an HDTV, DVD player, iHome, personal safe, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and hairdryer. Guests can participate in a variety of activities at Island Inn, including tennis, volleyball, shuffleboard, watersports and more. Alternatively, the BBQ area and library make for a relaxing hang out spot. For added convenience, there is a business center and self-serve laundry onsite. Traditions on the Beach offers local seafood and waterfront dining. The hotel is less than three miles from Sanibel Historical Village and Periwinkle Place Shops. Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum is five minutes away and J.N. Darling Wildlife Refuge is about a ten-minute drive.
Island Inn owns about 200 yards of private beach, which most guests consider the highlight of the hotel. Of course, lounge chairs and umbrellas are provided. Even if it's too cold for a swim, you can always go seashell hunting, and later learn more about them at the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum. All hotel guests are welcome to a free marine biologist led beach-walk tour, which departs in the morning.
Most guests found the staff at Island Inn as friendly, helpful, and accommodating. If you run into any problems, they will try resolve it in an efficient manner. If you need suggestions on where to go or how to get there, don't hesitate to ask, as the staff is very knowledgeable about the area.
The rooms at Island Inn are generally described as clean and well-equipped. Guests loved the walk-in shower. In addition, there is a variety of activities onsite for everyone to enjoy - you'll never be bored. The hotel offers bike and water-sport rentals, including kayaks and paddleboards. There are over 21 miles of bike trails to enjoy. On select nights, dinner comes with free entertainment, which most guests appreciated.
Many guests were disappointed that the restaurants generally closed early and had more limited hours in the off season. It's a good idea to double check these prior to making dining plans.
Though most guests had no problem, a few thought the Wi-Fi was spotty and slow at times.
Though not the hotel's fault, the local area is known for tiny, nearly-invisible beach bugs and bringing your own bug spray is highly recommended as these critters do bite. In case you forget, the hotel does offer some for sale.
