About Hotel Gudamendi
Positioned in the hills, high above San Sebastian, the Hotel Gudamendi Hotel offers tranquil accommodation with spectacular views over the city and bay.
Rooms have a homely feel to them, and feature cool tile on the floor, en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, minibars, TV’s, work desks, in-room safes and telephones.
The hotel has a number of event spaces, and is an immensely popular wedding venue. Reception is available 24 hours, and can assist with local information, while there is ample on-site parking out front. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.
There is no permanent restaurant on-site, but a basic breakfast and snacks are available in the bar, and the hotel offers inclusive packages that include dining at some of the best restaurants in Basque country. There are, of course, also less exclusive dining options available.
Hotel Gudamendi is in a relatively remote hilltop location, but the beaches in San Sebastian are only about three miles away.
Positive Reviews
positive:
Exceptional views from hilltop location
The spectacular views over the city, bay and even countryside from the incredible hilltop position was by far what guests most liked about Gudamendi. To guests it felt a bit as if they were eagles soaring above it all.
positive:
Plenty of parking
Surprisingly, the plentiful parking featured quite prominently in guest's positive reviews. Some explained that good on-site parking was something of a rarity in San Sebastian hotels, and they were grateful that they didn't have any parking hassles - at least not at their hotel.
positive:
Kept very clean
Guests who mentioned cleanness at all invariably praised the hotel for maintaining high standards. No real complaints concerning cleanliness were found, a fairly unusual occurrence.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Too remote if you don't have a car
While guests definitely liked the view from the hilltop location, it is of course quite rare for beaches to be found atop hills as well…A large number of guests mention it is an easy ride into San Sebastian, but go on to say that if they had not had a car they would not have liked the remote location one bit.
negative:
Reception staff less than welcoming
While some guests may simply have had bad luck, there were quite a few comments that the welcome offered on arrival left a lot to be desired. It was described as a bit cold and unfriendly, and seemed a big let down after an often long and tiring journey.
negative:
Poor food aside from breakfast
While breakfast was described as merely “OK”, the food available at other times was not much liked at all. Aside from guests saying it was not good, they went on to say that they couldn't really cobble together actual meals, forcing them to look offsite for their dining.
