Positive Reviews
positive:
Very convenient location for budget travellers
It was felt the d'Ostende's location, just steps from the station, was ideal for budget travellers, since there was be no expensive taxi fare to pay, as there would have been if staying on the Promenade des Anglais.
positive:
Surprisingly clean
While some guests were worried about the reputation of budget hotels near major train stations, on booking in most were pleasantly surprised that there rooms started out and remained clean for the duration of their stay.
positive:
Friendly and helpful staff
Most guests mention that the staff were unfailingly friendly and obliging, and more than willing to help out in any way they could. Several mentioned receiving great dining recommendations.
Negative Reviews
negative:
No tea or coffee makers in the rooms
This is a budget hotel, and many guests thought that there really should at least have been a kettle in their rooms so they wouldn't always have to buy their hot drinks at the vending machine, or more expensive cafes. On the other hand guests also said that the staff would provide hot water on request, but that this could end up being more bother than it was worth.
negative:
Wi-Fi blocks some very popular apps
It seems that the hotel's Wi-Fi blocks the popular messaging apps like Whatsapp. Considering the widespread use of these apps to maintain basic communication these days they felt this was an unreasonable policy that made the benefit of available Wi-Fi moot.
negative:
Very cramped and uncomfortable lift
While they did like the fact that the hotel had a lift, several guests describe it as being extremely narrow, and very uncomfortable when using with strangers.
