Hotel City Park (Brisbane, Australia)

The apartment is super clean and clearly well maintained to a high standard. Everything is great - even the shower pressure is just perfect.

It's a very quiet area but with all the services, shops and restaurants that you might need. The neighbouring parkland adds to the peace, tranquility and real sense of space. If, though, you still yearn for the city's bright lights, clubs and nightlife … they're an easy trip away. The more energetic will tackle the 20-minute walk or, during the day, there's a free bus service.

In keeping with the general tone of the place, members of staff are friendly and very helpful. Strangers to Brisbane will soon know the places to go - and those to avoid.

Cleaning, prior to arrival, is a bit iffy, with things like previous guests' hair in the plughole proving to be a less than appealing welcome. Pity, also, that they spoil things with niggling annoyances like Wi-Fi. It is free, but very limited.

No staff around. Members of staff are super-efficient … when they are here, but that time is very limited. If the iron breaks or you haven't been on the college course to enable you to operate the garage door, you are reliant on telephone contact.

The lounge area would benefit from more in the way of relaxing chairs and space is an issue if there is a full occupancy complement. Prices are quite high but they still push two single beds together and call it a double. Bet they don't do that at home! Some furniture is dated and grubby.
