Positive Reviews
positive:
Great activity options.
If you're keen to be active during your time here then do yourself a favor and get to know the front desk guy/gal straight away. Why? This hotel has rental bikes, kayaks and snowshoes available for you to check out from the front desk, free of charge. Suffice to say, it's all on a 'first come, first served' basis..
positive:
Ideal base for stargazers.
If you enjoy gazing up at the cosmos on crystal clear nights then this is definitely the place for you. As well as having the fire pit to keep you warm, there is a telescope sited on the balcony which you can use to scan the galaxy to your heart's content!
positive:
Showers are top notch.
Modern, hot and with a consistent pressure bordering on torrential; the showers here are just about perfect. Stay during the winter months and the effect is nothing short of heavenly.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Lack of reliable air-conditioning.
Whilst this isn't a big deal during the winter, it can be a pain in the warmer months: the rooms here can get unbearably muggy during the summer.
negative:
Summer nights can be noisy.
It can get quite lively around these parts during the high season what with all the summer concerts and street-based hustle and bustle going on. Unfortunately, it is hard to keep the noise generated by these events at bay as you need to keep your windows open to compensate for the non-existent A/C. Pack some ear plugs.
negative:
Wi-Fi isn't the best.
The Avalon Lodge only has one router at present. This means that the hotel's freely accessible Wi-Fi signal generally hovers somewhere between weak and absent (more so toward the front of the hotel). Apparently, the arrival of more robust hardware is imminent so hopefully this may soon cease to be an issue..
