Positive Reviews
positive:
Clean and comfortable hotel
If guests had only one word to describe the Helix Hotel, the majority would no doubt opt for “clean”. This description crops up in just about every review. “Comfortable” would probably be next on the list, and maybe “spacious” a close third. This perception is probably influenced by the fact that the hotel is more or less brand new after its renovations. However, it can't be a total coincidence that guests are all pretty much satisfied with their visit.
positive:
Friendly owner and staff
Although The Helix Hotel is clean and smart, it is the staff that appear to add the warmth to your stay. Guests praise them for their helpfulness and welcoming attitudes. This trait is extended to the hands-on owner, who seems to set the standards for friendliness in the establishment.
positive:
Great breakfast
You should be thrilled with your breakfast, if previous guests' comments are anything to go by. Delicious and plentiful, there is also lots of variety on offer too.
Negative Reviews
negative:
First impressions are deceiving
Some guests take one look at the Helix Hotel and its surroundings and are tempted to turn around and flee. Whilst in a business park and despite having shops and restaurants around, it feels run-down and looks unsafe to many. Even the outside of the hotel doesn't look very inviting. Most guests, however, would encourage you to not be discouraged, as your opinion will probably be transformed from the moment that you step inside the hotel's door.
negative:
Damn the seagulls
Some guests find that the soundproofing leaves a lot to be desired. Noises in the corridors and squeaky floorboards can be problematic. The main issue though, strange as it may seem, appears to be the din coming from the incessant cries of seagulls outside!
negative:
There's no lift
The hotel has no lift and taking the stairs could be an inconvenience for less mobile guests or those tired after a day at the wheel.
