About Old Church Farm
Old Church Farm is an historic manor house dating back to 1066 when it was the hunting lodge of King Harold and was called 'Alveston Manor'. It remained in the ownership of subsequent kings of England until Henry II who gave it to one of his barons, Fulk I Fitzwarin. It remained with his heirs for 3 generations until King John snatched it back as a result of a feud with Fulk III but was restored to the family by Henry III. During the Tudor period the property expanded and some of the features of the property from this time can still be seen today, particularly the ornate plaster ceilings in the drawing room and study. The property is conveniently located just 6 minutes from the M4/M5 interchange in 9 acres of beautiful countryside. The house and the church ruin in its grounds are designated national monuments. The business was awarded the highest accolade from the AA in August 2018: the coveted '5 Star Gold Award' as well as awards for dinner and breakfast. The property has 7 ensuite luxury bedrooms with antique furniture, lavish soft furnishings and free fibre WiFi. Communal rooms include the 38ft drawing room which opens out to a garden terrace which overlooks the croquet lawn; a wood panelled study with its ornate Tudor plastered ceiling; a formal dining room with a large inglenook fireplace; a bright breakfast room with views over South Gloucestershire countryside. Meals are available with 24 hours' notice and are prepared with local ingredients including many from our own vegetable garden, fruit cages and orchard. The premises is fully licensed to sell wines, beers and spirits to have with or without meals. Business users may book meeting rooms or the entire conference centre, which comprises 2 meeting rooms, a boardroom and a skittles alley/function room. Old Church Farm is a great base for exploring nearby Bristol, Bath, Cardiff, Cheltenham, Gloucester and all points west.
