Studio Barberouge, perfect for you! Limoux is a pretty, ancient, market town on the banks of the River Aude, only 25 minutes drive from Carcassonne Airport. It has everything you would imagine a traditional French market town would have: a beautiful main square with a big fountain, an interesting galleried arcade of timber framed houses, shops, cafe-bars and restaurants, a vibrant Friday market, plus Tuesday night market in July and August, museums, concerts, festivals and events almost all year round. The Carnival of Limoux, known locally as the “Fecos”, is a yearly event which runs from January to April. Most of the carnival events are on Saturdays and Sundays and take place in the main square.This is the longest carnival in France (and possibly the world!) and is conducted in the traditional Occitan language. There are also Folklore Festivals, Spanish week-ends (Feria) and Bastille Day celebrations with amazing firework displays, and music in the square most week-ends throughout the summer. Limoux is famous for Blanquette de Limoux, a delicious sparkling white wine which predates champagne - sit in the square and enjoy a glass; or tour one of the many vineyards in the area and enjoy the “degustation” (wine tasting).There are approximately 2,800 producers in Languedoc-Roussillon, making it one of the world’s largest wine-producing regions and between them they make around two billion bottles of wine a year! Local Sports Facilities: include indoor and outdoor swimming pools, walking, cycling, kayaking, fishing, and golfing. For winter sports, skiing and snowboarding, Limoux is just over 1 hours drive from the nearest ski resort. Sightseeing: Limoux is an attractive place with a wonderful sense of fun, and whilst well worth visiting in itself, it is also an excellent base for discovering the history of the region and is ideally placed for exploring the coast, the mountains and surrounding areas. Carcassonne is famous for its medieval castle, the Carcassonne festival in July and August, and the Christmas market in December and Mirepoix is one of the most stunning medieval bastide towns in the area. For lovers of the mountains you can visit the Pyrenees and Andorra to the South and the Black Mountains to the North. There are several Cathar Castles to visit detailing the history of the Cathars or for those of you interested in the Holy Grail stories a visit to Rennes-le-Chateau is a must. The popular Mediterranan beaches of Perpignan and Narbonne (and lots of other beautiful but lesser known beaches) are approximately a 90 minute drive away, or you can relax and bathe in the soothing thermal mineral springs in the spa towns of Rennes-le-Bain and Alet-les-Bains. Many brochures detailing Local Attractions & Events are available in the apartment or visit the Tourist Office in town for more information. The Apartment accommodation comprises of: Free wifi is available through the apartment. There are no pets allowed and it is strictly a non smoking apartment. We accept cash, cheque or credit card payments via Paypal and request a 50% (non-refundable) deposit on booking. There is a keysafe system which allows guests to arrive at their own convenience. Kitchen Area: is well equipped including electric oven/grill, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee-maker, cooking utensils; all crockery, glassware and cutlery are provided. A supply of coffee/tea/sugar/salt/pepper/oil is provided. Living/Sleeping Area: has a dining table and wooden chairs, rugs, lamps, comfortable chairs, TV/DVD player. There are books (English/French) and a selection of DVDs are available . There is a double bed and a single bed, a unit for hanging clothes and a chest of drawers (for those who don’t want to live out of a suitcase!). Bathroom: Fully tiled, consisting of a large modern shower unit, WC and hand basin. There is a hairdryer, ironing board and iron for guests use. General Information: The apartment will have been cleaned to a high standard ready for your occupancy with fresh bed linen & towels and a change of linen/towels is provided for mid week. Please provide your own beach towels. The bathroom has a “step-up” which may be difficult for anyone with mobility problems. There is no landline telephone here, but mobile phone signals in the area are generally good. In France it is necessary to pay a Taxe de Sejour at the end of your stay but this has been included in the rental cost. On arrival please read the Welcome folder, which details everything that you might need to know about the apartment, area and things going on locally. It includes photos and maps of sightseeing attractions or suggestions for day trips. Please check that the inventory items are available for your use; if there is any problem ie something missing, broken, needs cleaning or repairing please call us so that we can organise for it to be replaced, cleaned or repaired. At the end of your stay please leave the apartment clean, and in good order. We accept that accidents happen therefore if you break/damage or loose items such as crockery, linen, or keys please inform us before you depart otherwise a charge will be levied upon you to cover the costs. The guests must not cause annoyance to neighbours and adhere to all safety and security precautions as might be required by insurance policies covering properties. No smoking is allowed in the studio apartment. No animals/birds are allowed in the studio. Guests are advised to take out insurance to cover travel, health, death, injury or disablement, cancellation etc as we the owners accept no responsibility for these. Travel: Please let us know if you are hiring a car or organising your own transport so that we can give you directions from the airport/ railway station or we can collect/return you to the airport or railway station by arrangement. Toulouse airport €100 (plus parking charges), Carcassonne airport €50, Railway station (Limoux)€10 (Carcassonne)€55 By Car: Limoux lies approximately 25 minutes drive south of Carcassonne. The nearest autoroute exit is No 23: on the A61. Parking at the apartment is available in nearby streets or one of the town’s car parks. By Train: The nearest railway station is Limoux. By Air: Carcassonne, Toulouse and Beziers airports are the nearest; Carcassonne airport is approx. a 20 minutes drive, Toulouse 1 hr 35 mins and Beziers 1 hr 45 mins. Carcassonne and Beziers are both serviced by Ryanair from the UK and Europe - www.ryanair.com. Flybe are also commencing a service to Beziers from 2011 - summer months only. Other airports - Montpellier (Easy Jet, Ryanair and from July 2011 by bmi) - and Perpignan (Ryanair/Flybe). Full directions will be sent to you once you make a booking.
