Very hospitable hosts
The two hosts, Roger and his mother Annetta, are universally praised for their hospitality, friendliness and professionalism. The term “nothing was too much trouble” tended to come up very often.
Flatfield House offers guests rooms in fully equipped shared apartments in fantastic grounds with the most lovely country outlook. The rooms offered are individual bedrooms in apartments, with the kitchen and other facilities shared among all the occupants. There are flat screen TV’s in each apartment. The hosts can be flexible when checking guests in, and can also provide local information, laundry service and help store luggage. Flatfield House is pet-friendly, and is quite popular with dog owners. The apartments have fully equipped kitchens, but those not self-catering will find dining options within short driving distance. The hosts will be happy to offer personal recommendations. The village of Hillsborough, with its beautiful restored Georgian architecture, is less than five miles drive from Flatfield, while those flying in will find Belfast airport 18 miles to the north.

While some pet owners were concerned about the amount of space their dogs had for exercise, the vast majority felt that Flatfield House went out of its way to cater to their needs.
The most common compliment, aside from the praise for the hosts, was that the grounds were both immaculately groomed, and provided a wonderful outlook from the house. It seemed to leave guests in no doubt that they had arrived at a top country house.
It seems that some guests get a misleading impression from some booking sites as to exactly what it is they are in fact reserving. Essentially what is being offered is rooms in shared apartments, unless one party books all the rooms in an entire apartment. Some guest were under the impression that they had booked a private apartment, and were disappointed, or occasionally even alarmed, to find that they were in fact sharing the common apartment facilities with other guests.
While Flatfield House is a self catering property, some of these do still offer breakfast and other meals. Some guests were disappointed that these were not available at Flatfield House.
A couple of guests were surprised that the property didn't have any Wi-Fi access in place, considering the prime importance of always-on connectivity nowadays. There is 3G reception in the area, so guests should still be able to use their own data packages if needed.
